The OCEAN2000 restaurant at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale can officially be called seafood heaven for foodies everywhere. But don’t be upset meat eaters; you’ll definitely find delicious dishes here, as well. Its reopening brings dishes to life with fresh flavors and a local twist.

The restaurant offers a wide arrange of seafood, Latin classics and even some European dishes. At the grand reveal, we got a chance to sample some featured flavors while enjoying the waterfront view.

The casino-themed cocktail party was fabulous. Blackjack and roulette tables adorned the outside deck area with drink tables nearby. On the menu were specialty cocktails like Absolut’s new Tune drink, served on an ice bar, and açaí caipirinhas by Leblon cachaça. A favorite was the “Absolut Hot Mess,” a concoction composed of Absolut Orient Apple vodka and muddled strawberries. It was reminiscent of an apple pie mixed with fresh strawberry shortcake.

In the main dining area was a large, buffet-style selection of dishes. The shining stars of the night were the fresh mahi-mahi ceviche cups with lime and peppers and the tuna tiradito with mustard sauce. And who can forget the massive paella, freshly garnished, of course, bursting with clams, mussels and octopus. All the ingredients were insanely fresh and you could taste it from the quality of the dishes.

For the guests who didn’t particularly enjoy seafood, the options were plentiful, like roast pork with onion mojo and chimichurri sauce. There was also sliced jamón serrano, a typical Spanish ham, along with selections of chorizo and roasted vegetables. The authentic Spanish flavors were strong and robust. It was interesting how the surf and turf tastes complemented the various dishes throughout the night.

Guests could also enjoy other hors d’oeuvres being passed around, like melt-in-your-mouth conch fritters with chipotle mayo and puffed pastry bites filled with Florida lobster tail.

The dessert setup was fun and quirky, as it was set up inside the hotel’s ice cream emporium. One chef prepared bananas foster while another scooped creamy ice cream scoops for guests. Also on the menu were spectacular bites of a chocolate tres leches and a tart and creamy key lime pie, both dishes epitomizing the local flavors of South Florida.

OCEAN2000 is a bit far for Miamians, but worth the drive for spectacular seafood and even meat dishes, for those carnivores out there. Guests’ appetites and taste buds will open once they try the mix of fresh ingredients and local flare served up here. A nice stroll on the beach wouldn’t be a bad idea after munching on delicacies like ceviche or cured ham platters.

The newly revamped OCEAN2000 restaurant at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale is nothing short of extraordinary. With stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and a warm, inviting ambiance, OCEAN2000 can surely be the perfect date nightspot or even a lazy Sunday brunch tradition.
